How to Style Polka Dots

How to Style Polka Dots

When it comes to having to put together simple outfits for runnings errands while having J with me, I normally gravitate towards just jeans and a basic tee but I know that getting dressed and putting on make-up help me feel more like myself.

So today on the blog I am showing you how to simply style a polka dot top with jeans and a pair of loafers, while on a budget.

Summer Must Haves: Shoes Edition

Wedges

The perfect summer sandal in my opinion, they give you height when you are a shortie like myself but stability to wear all day/night long.  I am a lover of comfortable wear so I wouldn't but it is a possibility.  I will always keep a pair of much more comfortable shoes close by either in the car or in my bag.

What to Wear With:
I wear wedges with skinny jeans, shorts, maxi skirts, and even jumpsuits.  I personally don't do the wide legged jeans just because of my height so I can't recommend them but if you are taller and want to pair them with a wide pant, go for it!

Chunky Heel Sandals

I recently wore these to a wedding and while we didn't stay long enough to dance the night away, I wasn't in a rush to take these off as soon as I hit the car.  I didn't jump on the chunky heel bandwagon right away.  I think what had originally turned me off was the platform style that launched and it wasn't really my thing.  I think a pointy heel is sexy but honestly not for this momma.  It is hard to walk in those suckers as it is to add a heavy Jaxon to the mix plus a diaper bag, no thanks!

What to Wear With:
Just about anything, these are kind of an all around shoe that you can pair with any outfit to any occasion dress it up or down and day or night.

Tennis Shoes

By far my favorite kind of shoe, these are a little harder to style as it can go with everything apparently that is this years trend I don't recommend it nor will you see me doing it.

What to Wear With
Leggings
Jeggings
Skinny Jeans
Work Out attire

Casual Shoes

This is your vans, converses, adidas original shell-toes

What to Wear With:
I would consider wearing this style with just about anything.  I have paired my converse with skater dresses, jeans, capris, maxi dresses, and I have worn them even with the basic chick leggings and a tee.  It is literal mom-attire.

Flat Sandals

My flat sandals are the ones that I wear on the fly, these are what I throw my painful shoes off for and what I make sure is in the car on those days that I go get a pedicure because you literally can't walk out of the salon with those other paper sandals.

What to Wear With:
Anything in your closet, seriously.  Preferred to pack for when traveling.

Mules

I picked up a couple of mules this year after seeing them all over social media and figured I'd give them a try.  I found a really cute pair at Target, and then this other black pair at American Eagle.  Great to throw on when traveling as well since they are easy to take off and put on.

What to Wear With:
I have worn mine with skinny jeans and I wouldn't mind wearing them with a few other outfits as well.  These are another comfy chic shoe that you can wear with a lot of outfits.

Ruffled Waist Belted Shorts

If you follow me on my insta-stories you know that behind the scenes I have been trying my best to get a little space in my house to photograph outfits.  I don't really have a ton of time away from the house or someone to take all of my photos either.

I don't currently make any money off of my blog so I am trying my best to build up my content in hopes to one day make some sort of living off of it but until then I can't really afford to hire a photographer so I do the job myself.

My set up is pretty basic, I have a few studio lights, a tripod and my sony A6000.  I have a remote timer and I use my phone to see if I am in focus it takes a few tries before I get it in focus and I don't look like a complete weirdo.

I have been looking for some shorts with this ruffle waist because I feel like they are really in style this summer and look perfect for a vacation or a weekend out with the boys.

I picked up this olive green color because it is one of my favorite colors and it also goes great with my skin tone.

I paired it with this white Guess body suit because it makes tucking is look more seamless and is also comfortable and chic.  I will do a post on how and why to wear body suits.

Showing Off-The-Shoulder for Summer

Whew! This week is flying my loves and I can't believe the weekend is almost here.

I wanted to share with you guys this new top I picked up from Old Navy.  It is absolutely perfect for the summer.  With the weather being so up and down here in all of the states {northern friends I feel for you} wearing clothing out of the house can be unpredictable to say the least.

But we are in Houston and Texas heat can be no joke.  I love this top because it is perfect for taking J to the park and then transforming into the perfect evening outfit with just a change of shoes, or pants.

I haven't showed shoulder in quite a while and with all of the off-the-shoulders cute tops I have seen all over instagram, I couldn't wait to get my hands on one.

I wasn't sure this color was going to suit me, but I really love it.  I have absolutely no green in my wardrobe besides camo and with the bright colors arriving for summer, I felt like this one was perfect.

It is bright and colorful enough to wear all summer long, I am also super excited to pack it for our cruise later this year.

I paired my off-the-shoulder with a pair of distressed denim and some sandals but I can see this with shorts and some vans or even some jeggings with pointy toed flat.  I can totally do some more insta-stories with how to pair outfits with shoes if that is what you guys are looking for.

The Perfect Traveling Flats

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting up with a couple of girl boss friends, we went to Galveston and ate dinner and walked around a bit afterward.

When we walked around my friend Stacy helped me out with some photos, and I desperately need to find a good photographer because y'all I have been trying to get some photos done at the house and it is not happening.

I found these cute flats at Target when I was doing some shoe shopping and I just had to have them because they would go perfectly with a simple dress, jeans or even shorts. I don't have a ton of black shoes because I got rid of a bunch of things recently and I was in need of something to use on the days that tan/brown wasn't going to work.

Shoes: Target
Shirt: Target
Distressed Jeans: American Eagle
Lipstick: Milani Matte Naked

Most weekends we don't have the pleasure of spending much down time alone together, we are normally catching up with family, or doing all of the things adults have to do.

On Sunday, we went to eat lunch at Lee's Fried Chicken and Donuts, if you visit definitely try their Bacon, Onion, Jalapeno Marmelade, the Sweet Sriracha Syrup, and the Poblano Sauce.  We will have to visit again ourselves minus J, he was well-behaved it is just entirely too hard to stay clean while eating fried chicken and trying to feed a little one at the same time.

Then we came home and relaxed.  We let J run wild upstairs (and it literally looks like a tornado hit our upstairs living room and his bedroom) until he literally crawled on both of us and fell asleep.

E took a much needed nap and I tried to nap but as soon as I finally fell asleep his alarm went off making sure we didn't waste our entire day sleeping, but it wouldn't have hurt to sleep a little longer.

Here are a couple of snaps from our day, plus outfit details below.

You guys I am so excited to share this post with y'all today!

I finally got myself a remote trigger and have been able to take my own photos.  E is always so busy and I would get so mad that I don't have one of those IG husbands that every one talks about.

I knew I had to do something because I was ready to take my blog photography to the next level and I kept promising my loyal readers that I would.  So it was definitely time to actually work on it.

J and I had so much fun - OKAY, I am lying here.

He had fun picking up rocks and running from mom while I tried desperately to get good photos of him.  I just had fun editing these.

I lucked out by having a big girl camera because of wedding and portrait photography so I have to use it to my advantage.

This is a really old dress that has been hanging in my closet for years, my weight was the worst before J and I wasn't ever able to drop the weight Ill chalk it up to happiness. But this beauty was just hanging in my closet and I am so glad to finally wear it.

I love to pair things with a simple pump, these are Steve Madden Daisie Classic Pumps and they are one of my favorite pairs of shoes.

I didn't add any accessories because if you know anything about having a little one less is more.  Your earrings will have to come out, and your necklace will have to come off.

If you do want to pair this with a cute earring I suggest these from Shop Morning Lavender
If you want a simple make up look like mine, then check out my 7 Product Make Up Look.  It is my normal every day make up with a red lip.

What is that, Velvet?

If you have ever watched "Coming to America" you can appreciate the title of this post, and my humor for that matter 馃槀. I was raised with boys forgive me.

I recently saw a blogger post wearing a velvet jumpsuit and I absolutely loved it. I know it isn't really mommy like to wear velvet but we all still get to do date night once in a while right?  And if not you can always spruce up your mommy wardrobe while accessorizing or accentuating with velvet.

I found a couple of items that I fell in love with to add a little velvet to your life this fall.

Please for the sake of all things mommy, don't go out wearing all things velvet and then say I told you it would look amazing, that's not what I am saying.

So let me break it down, if you wear velvet pants DO NOT, I repeat do not wear a velvet top.  A basic tee will work, wear leather loafers or pumps and put your hair up in a bun.  Piece velvet items together with none velvet items, the days are over where you should be wearing all velvet.

A little sometimes can go a long way especially with the velvet trend, that is why I added in the shirt with a velvet pocket and a clutch these are items that will accent your outfit, and keep you on trend while potentially be your statement piece.

Oh and don't forget you can totally detail your house with velvet items like dining room chairs. My tip would be to only use them at the head and end of the table, all velvet may be a bit much unless you are going for the 70's vibe then it would totally work in your favor.

The Perfect Mom On-the-Go Outfit

Everytime I wear these jeans my niece and nephew always ask if they belong to my mom 馃檮.

Um, no these mom jeans are all mine and I'm cool with that. I picked these up babies up on a whim at Forever 21 a few years back and while they were much darker before I washed them, once they started to fade with each wash the more I loved them.

I am pretty short about 5'0 [according to the measurements my husband took 馃槖] so pants are typically really long and I either have to buy petite or deal with a shitty length in jeans.

My go-to for jean buying lately has been American Eagle, their regular length fit pretty well and I'm not stuck with a shit ton of fabric or running to a tailor.  Which honestly I don't have time for.

The shirt is Old Navy it is labeled a boyfriend shirt on their site and I have been in the market for the perfect white tee. When I first got it in my online order I wasn't impressed but as I started to wear it more, the more I kind of liked it.

The wide opening at the bottom of the t-shirt made me less self conscious of the extra baby weight I was still fighting off. It didn't hug in any of the unnecessary areas and felt pretty comfy too.

Overall this is a typical get out of the house outfit when running errands with J, I love dresses but it's not always a great 馃挕.  Especially when you are lifting a 20+ lb baby in and out of a shopping cart.

The headband is from a good friend, it is literally the best headband especially for the on the go mom. It has a wire in it so it is really easy to put on and then twist the wire and keep it in place. It actually makes me excited for when my hair does finally grow back out 馃檪 but with my short hair it gives me that little bit of extra flare even if it is just me out running errands. Storms.

You know those things that aren't just weather related but life related.

It has been a little hectic around the house lately, and I am trying to get things back under control.

Our lovely puppy Max [or Diesel] decided he to chew through our internet lines which resulted in me not being able to get post going but I am currently using my Verizon Hot Spot and I hope my bill isn't insanely high next month because of it. Let's just hope it is included.

That folks is called dedication, lol.

With all of the hectic-ness going on, I decided I wanted to create a few printables that have been helping me keep things in order around the house, somewhat.  I am going to create a small library and continuously add new items, these of course will be free if you sign up for the new letter the link will be provided.

If you haven't signed up for the newsletter you can find it over in the side bar or at the bottom of this post, I will start sending out weekly updates on blog post and upcoming events, or big news there first. I know I have said this before but J is finally letting me put him down more often and he is finding his toys much more intriguing than me.

I have a lot of plans for this little blog of mine in the future and I can't wait to get started on all of it but for now I need to get my house organized and a meal plan set up.  If you have meal planning tips or recipes, please send them my way.

I recently had a really big hair change and if you don't keep up with me on my instagram you definitely should, it is where I post a few behind the scenes, or things as they happen.

We will be in Galveston again on Tuesday so don't forget to check my insta-stories for more of that.

Thank you for reading my little slice of the world, I can't wait to see what the future brings for this little blog of mine.

Nights like these.

Lately, I have noticed that I am getting a lot of inspiration at night mostly after I should be asleep because the sweet baby of mine will be waking up in a few short hours for one of his night feedings.

A few post back I showed you guys a few bites from my night out with my girl Stacy over at The Hurried Hostess but what I left out was my outfit of the night.

I haven't done much shopping [correction: I hadn't done much shopping] and a lot of things still don't fit great since having J, so I had to put something together hoping it would fit nicely.  I have had this top for a couple of years and it possibly could be the first or second time I have worn it like ever.

I'm really bad about buying things and never wearing them, I have a ton of stuff with price tags still on them 馃う馃徑鈥嶁檧锔 and my husband is going to kill me when he reads this.

I am proud of myself that to say the least, I fit in it without any spanx! Yas girl, Yas!  馃檶馃徑
